Chairries - the garment

The faculty show in Hyde Park will be closing soon.  My piece there is 48” x 72” - or, in the words of my partner in crime - too big for the car.  I failed to get it immediately into another show (read: cheap storage).  It must be dismantled….but then what?

I have spent yet another day looking researching (obsessing over) Lady Gaga, and her precedents, like Leigh Bowery and Grace Jones.  Then, just so happens that figure skating was on today.  And, I have recently cleaned out my dresser to learn that I have SIX pairs of Danceskin tights.  So……..Chairries the body suit?!

It really makes sense to me.  The frame idea did do some things, it was large enough of a presence, it could tilt forward and make the things move, but other than that, it was arbitrary.  Given that the whole cherry thing started with poems about trees, and bleeding and breakups, and that while I was stuffing hair into grapes I was also working on a painting involving cherries and feet, putting it on a body makes sense.  Don’t know why it has taken me so long to embrace the obvious.  Gracias Gaga.
