POKE and two more grad updates
First, I am installing POKE for the fourth (and final?) time tomorrow.
I am trying not to hear the resounding words of a recent critique: ’ I see no growth.’ Fine. I will argue that repetition is just advertising, establishing myself as an art brand, and getting the piece even more exposure. Sure, it’s also a show I have done before. Honestly, I wanted to have a different piece accepted, and POKE was my submission fee insurance. It was accepted. So I didn’t waste $35. But alas, I am repeating myself and proving someone’s point about portfolio stagnancy. Anyway.
Second. I am on the wait list for VCU. This is really quite good, as I think there were only two spots available.
Third, I had delightful conversations, all VERY different, with CCA, MICA, and Cranbrook. Now it’s waiting. And making a decision about the kind of experience I want/need.
Meanwhile, I will heal and recover from my trip to Baltimore, which preceded a wicked cold. I don’t want to ever fly again if I have to deal with searing sinus pressure and popping ears. I was half deaf for three days.
I’m also eager to prove to myself, and anyone else that is concerned, that I am indeed growing as an artist, and that any politeness present in my work is not a detriment to it. I can push myself outside my comfort zone and I can produce more work than I have been. Beginning now.
